Naturlangsamkeit is a made up word.

Brought into existence when Emerson in all his kenning slammed together “Natur” with “Langsamkeit”.

It means the slowness of nature. The nature-slowness. Natureslow. Naturlangsamkeit.

The ticking clock that forges a ruby in a thousand years, the unrelenting force that lets us pass by but sings the Alps out of the Earth, moving too slow for us to see but upending the force of all things.

We are creatures of the earth, the ones who live fast lives, tossed about in the wind of change, fashion, thought, and philosophy.

But we are not the result of those lives—we are products of a different way. The inheritors of an intention so powerful and slow we can never see it, never match it, never put it to rest—the ever-moving slowness of nature, worthy of our respect.
