No One Can Take It From You

All the possessions, all the rewards, the salary, the accolades, the company car, the four tickets in the suite, the bonus, the degree, the keys to the house or the key to the apartment in the beautiful city—

They can all be taken from you.

It is only death that can take away the investments you make in yourself. The gifts you give to the people you love, the knowledge you acquire about the universe we share, the expertise you’ve found the hard way.

Maybe part of the measure of a life well lived is that final gift—the things no one can take from us until the end?
