Against Perspective

Morning Reading for October 7

Do you really want to be the one who saw it coming?

Who knew better than to trust that person, that friend, that lover, broke the knife of betrayal out of their hand with a spinning swan kick before it even got close to your back?

Yes, we may read stories from the past, hear the wounds of others, and think: it won’t be us. We’ll be ready for the betrayal, for the market change, we’ll stay vigilant at any cost. And those are good things.

But you might also ask: if all your heroes were betrayed, underwent the same catastrophes, do you really want to be so different than all of them?

Maybe the 4th law of thermodynamics is something to the effect that you can’t live your life and observe it, too.

Thank you. Let’s have a great day.
