The Simple Pleasure
Morning Reading for October 14
Sit and shut down the senses, one by one, like a tired small business owner, lovingly walking around the shop, first flipping off the lights, then the eyes, then telling the nose to take over breathing, the mouth pleasantly stretching after a long day of jawing—
Take the assessment, the knee that creaks more than it did in your youth, feeling the ligaments sigh in pleasure as you lean into the long stretch of relaxation.
We might call it the simple pleasure of a day well lived, of a job well done.
But maybe all the doing is nothing more than a prerequisite to something that already existed—like a dog, well loved by its owners, who needs daily play to expend its energy stores before flopping down, stretching out, taking in the simple pleasure of existing.
Thank you. Let’s have a great day.
