Repaying Good

Morning Reading for October 15

Don’t repay good with evil, the saying goes.

Don’t do it to others, seeing generosity as something to be exploited for even more gain, or taking advantage of a blunder someone made while trying to do the right thing.

Don’t do it to yourself, allowing something you started with the best intentions to guilt you now—a routine, an endeavor, a commitment to brush your teeth more often, still there despite missing a couple of days.

Because the funny thing about repaying good with evil is that you can’t even repay good with good. You can’t actually repay good at all.

Good is simply given. Nothing any of us do can change that. There’s no chance to pay good back—only forward.

Thank you. Let’s have a great day.
