False Courage
Morning Reading for October 16
The funny thing about courage is—so long as you can keep the performance up to the end—there’s no difference between having courage and faking it.
In fact, as anyone who has been courageous before can likely attest, courage doesn’t really care why you do it. Doesn’t check your motives or ask for your intentions. Doesn’t look a gift virtue in the mouth.
All it does is offer you an opportunity: shoulders back, deep breath, do the thing every nerve ending in your body is telling you is a bad idea.
Maybe in one sense, you could argue: the less you feel it, the more courageous it is.
Thank you. Let’s have a great day.
