Leaving the Door Open
Morning Reading for October 18
History is, for once, unanimous: if you want to deal with your enemies, you have to see the job all the way through. You can’t just half beat your opponents—they’ll hate you all the more for it, spending even more night scheming your downfall.
But unlike history, real life offers few enemies. Few people we could call opponents beyond a few small, very specific circumstances.
So you might find that leaving a door open—whether it’s open wide, or just a crack—provides opportunity for people to walk back in.
Not to scheme their way to victory, but to join you on a new endeavor, recognizing the room you left for them to come back, wanting to build a world that looked like that for everyone—to take on the future as friends.
Thank you. Let’s have a great day.
