One Step Forward

May 12

One step forward, two steps back.

It’s frustrating as hell. A short burst of progress, ruined by external circumstances, or even worse (and unfortunately too common), self sabotage.

We’re barely over the exhilaration of that first sweet step before we watch the work unravel.

Of course, this is only a downside if you’ve convinced yourself you’re in a situation in which walking forward is preferable to walking backwards.

If there was, say, a lion somewhere in the forward vicinity, you may be grateful for that extra backwards step.

Or if you look down and realize you’re standing on the ledge—well, a couple extra feet in the opposite direction may just be exactly what the doctor ordered.

And if you consistently take two steps back for every step forward, maybe the answer is to turn around?

Regardless—isn’t the most important thing that you’re still walking?
