The Perfect Person for the Job

January 2

The depressing fact of most work is that you’re the perfect person for the job only once you’ve finished the job—learned everything there is to learn in the process of bringing something to completion, knowing so much more than that good-for-little amateur who started it.

The sad fact is we never get to go back in time and start the work over.

But if you’re now the perfect person for the job, that also makes you the perfect person to look at the work, see all the imperfections, the places you now know more, all the things you could do differently, do better, more efficiently—

It makes you the perfect person to look at all of that and say, without the slightest hesitation or double meaning, that this is a job well done.

And if that’s not enough, well, there’s always more jobs to do after this one.

Thank you—let’s have a great day.
