Punch Drunk

September 8

Being punch drunk could mean you can’t let go of whatever’s a few inches in front of your knuckles, swinging and swinging for all the rage, vitriol, and anger you’re good for, refusing to let any strike be your last, an open season on these hands.

The appeal of being punch drunk is having one punch too many—or 6. Giving in to the emotions that stop conflict from hurting, at least for a few moments. Letting them have what they really deserve, all the words, thoughts, and feelings you’ve held back, finally let loose all at once.

The question you should ask is: do you have the strength to cut yourself off after a reassonable number of punches? To take on the conflict that is necessary without giving into the emotions telling you to enjoy it?

To throw a punch that has to be thrown completely sober?

Morning Reading is a daily email to help center yourself, reflect, and prepare for the day. It’s sent with love from your friend, Zach in Austin, Texas. He even drew the logo himself.
