Morning Reading for September 12
If creativity comes from within you, you’ll have to get your pickaxe ready. Find a pile of ropes and some dynamite before hitting the gym to get a good pump going on your biceps. There’s work to do and that work is active—putting your neck on the line to see if you can drag something good out of yourself, really get in there and make it happen.
If creativity comes from outside of you, the game is a little different. You’re like a valet: no matter how hung over, no matter how late the bus is running, you’ve just got to show up.
You may be slammed from open or spend the whole day waiting for nothing. Either way, you’re on the clock. Waiting.
Not waiting for the creative thought to come, just waiting, because waiting is your job, and damn it, you’re a pro.
Holding the paintbrush or guitar or keyboard like a valet at their stand.
Because who heard of a valet getting mad over not having to work?
Thank you. Let’s have a great day.
