The Only One to Judge
Morning Reading for September 24
If you’re in the business of making things—paintings, words, movies, little drawings on sticky notes, businesses, careers—
Or, at the very least, interested in making those things (and presently in the denial of the business element of it)—
Then you know there’s only one person qualified to judge your work, and that person is you.
What you might not know is that you’re not qualified today. It’s only the future version of yourself that is ready and able to pass judgment on what will work and what will not.
The you of today is too close to the work. To involved with it, stuck in the codependence we call creation. And everyone else is too far away from it, removed, not able to really understand it.
It’s only you that can judge your work—only the future you, the one who knows a little more, who can look on it with the loving eyes of knowledge and objectivity—eyes that smile more often than they do not.
Thank you. Let’s have a great day.
