Delaying the Inevitable

Morning Reading for September 29

If death comes for us all—and it does—then much of the good and right things we spend our days doing are not really about solving problems, just delaying them.

Eating right, working out, getting sleep, not getting hooked on designer drugs, we know the path of destruction those things usher us down. We know it because it’s the path we all walk, we just want to walk it slowly.

So why aren’t we comfortable employing this same strategy with other problems in our lives?

The fight with your partner, the crippling self doubt, the knowledge of just how unlikely it is that you’ll succeed in whatever endeavor you’ve taken on—what’s wrong with just delaying it another day? Another week?

Isn’t that what it means to be alive?

Thank you. Let’s have a great day.
