But for ordinary people like us, untroubled by the theoretical, there are constants—axioms of the way things work. The speed of light. The passing of time. They may play differently on other planets, but here, we can know them.
Not just as figures on a sheet of paper, but as one of the few faithful friends in an ever-changing world.
