It’s a lesson from the stoics: the filet mignon is just a hunk of cow. The fancy wine is just smashed up grapes. The people annoying you on a Thursday afternoon are, for better or worse, just bags of electric soup.

In joy, peace, happiness, when everything is going right, all of life can be meaningful and charged—

But the second it catches up to you, the eject handle is right there—after all, do you really want to have your day ruined by walking, talking, angry soup?
