Any Time You Want

July 3

Your past self—what a person. So strong and capable. They put in so much time, effort, and work, endured so much, and created who you are today.

Unfortunately, they can be quite demanding about the whole thing. So many rules and lists. Traumatic experiences. Ways of being and defending yourself and protecting your future self.

Your past self did everything they had to do to get you here in one piece. And they deserving all the love and gratitude you can give for it, a standing ovation of acceptance and thankfulness for a job well done.

What they don’t deserve is the keys to your future.

Your past self is still living in the past. That’s it’s job. But your future self deserves more. Deserves better.

We often listen to ourselves from the past, and keep racking up a bill for ourselves in the future. The fact that you have always done something a certain way is not a commitment to keep doing anything that way. Quite the opposite, in fact.

Always having done something wrong is not a promise to your future self to keep doing it the same way—

You can stop any time you want.

Morning Reading is a daily email to help center yourself, reflect, and prepare for the day. It’s sent with love from your friend, Zach in Austin, Texas. He even drew the logo himself.
