Welcome to the team

Hello friend—you’re receiving this email as a part of morning reading, a daily reflection on the parts of life worth living for that you signed up for sometime last year. I've got a laundry list of additions, designs updates, and website pieces I want to make, but ultimately, I just wanted to bring this back. Thank you for reading, and a very happy New Year.

Welcome to Team HumanityJanuary 9th“Family and motherland are but two circles that are part of the wider circle that is humanity” - Leo Tolstoy, Calendar of Wisdom

Good morning, friend.Every single person you know is human.(At least, I’m fairly certain. If not, then we’ve got a lot of figuring out to do.)That is, in fact, the biggest shared trait you have with them. Your shared humanity unites you more closely to each and every person in time then to those non-human things around you in this time. You are closer to a stranger from across the world who lived in the 5th century than you are to the phone in your hand, the keys in your pocket, or even the dog in your lap. But the strangest part? The weirdest stretch of the whole ordeal of existing? You are the link to the rest of humanity. The you bouncing around in between your ears, the inner sense of self, the fact that you can feel your toes and your fingertips reading this, that is your link to the rest of us. Because before you decide what baseball team to root for, before you realized you were always meant to have bangs, before ever reading any holy book or taking any moral code or saying any pledge of allegiance or learning the Boy Scout law,You were human.Inexplicably and often unfortunately linked to the rest of us. Which means if you believe in anything humanity has ever done—Including but not limited to: painting the Mona Lisa. Writing “Hey Jude” and Beethoven’s 5th. Giving a stranger $5 on the subway. Eating Subway for $5. Taming fire and discovering laughter and always finding new ways of misplacing our keys… If you believe in any of that, it also means, in a roundabout sense,You believe in yourself, too. Because without you, well, you’d have no sense of us. Welcome to Team Humanity. Journal Prompt: Who in life do you admire the most? What is it about that person that you're so drawn to?
