Out of This World
February 9
“The mind is but a visitor,
It thinks us out of this world”
RIlke, book of hours, I, 51
Good morning, friend.
And just like that, we’re somewhere North of Mars.
Does Mars have a magnetic North? Who knows. But you knew exactly where it was anyway.
We can throw back to earth for a quick game of catch before we imagine everything is upside down. No more Earth rotating the Sun, now all the heavens are being pulled away from the globe with all the items around your hands now flying up to the ceiling.
Speaking of which, the words of this email are now flying out of the screen, wrapping their way around your head, and landing in your ears. It’s why the little voice in your head is narrating them, dutifully reading out the ticker tape into your inner monologue.
That is, of course, nonsensical. But your brain tracked with every sentence.
It’s the same brain that can imagine worlds, then promptly think you out of them.
The same brain always tugging on the sleeves of your attention, asking you to fly away to some far off place where things are otherwise.
Even if it means missing out on things as they are.
Morning Reading is a daily email to help center yourself, reflect, and prepare for the day. It’s sent with love from your friend, Zach in Austin, Texas. He even drew the logo himself.
