You Are Here
May 3
You are here.
A friendly little dot on a mall map letting you know the most important piece of information: where you are.
Of course, you were already where you were before you found the dot. How else could you be reading the map? The news is assuring: here is where you are, and here are the other things around you, and where they are, too.
In the grand scheme of things, we get anxious about knowing where we are in life—but maybe, just like the sign at the mall, it’s not actually about where we are so much as it is about what is around us.
What is nearby, what people, what life events, what places, what choices, what beliefs. What awaits us in the future. How we’re doing relative to our peers, our parents, our past.
(And, on occasion, where the nearest restroom is).
An impossibility to know—except for one simple, inescapable fact:
You are here.
Where else could you possibly be?
Morning Reading is a daily email to help center yourself, reflect, and prepare for the day. It’s sent with love from your friend, Zach in Austin, Texas. He even drew the logo himself.
